Food for Thought: Uncovering Health Disparities among Immigrant Communities during the COVID-19 Pandemic

About the event

On Thursday, January 28, at 12:00 PM, the Institute for Science, Society and Policy hosted Prof. Rukhsana Ahmed, Faculty Affiliate, ISSP and Associate Professor, Department of Communication, University at Albany, State University of New York, to discuss Minority health disparities and Covid-19.

The immigrant experience is often fraught with economic instability, lack of safe housing, unemployment, food and financial insecurities, social isolation, low health literacy, as well as limited access to culturally and linguistically competent services. These wide range of social determinants of health have resulted in disproportionate burden on immigrant populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation will focus on the structural causes for health disparity among immigrant communities and underscore resiliency-based approaches that increase collective efficacy to eliminate COVID-19 health disparities.
